On a desert island with you...

That desert isle enchantress Lisabea is mixing drinks and metaphors over on the Desert Island Keepers blog -- where yours truly is the guest today. Drop by and lift a glass with us.

I just want to very quickly thank everyone who has said such kind things about Death of a Pirate King -- especially those of you have had said it where other people can hear.

Thank you to Book Mom Utopia for her recent review. She did surprise me (although I'll leave it to you to figure out how). Thanks also to Lisabea for her nonreview of the book -- probably one of the most touching things I've read from a reader and friend. Lisa did what seemed to be to be the best possible compromise. As we are friends she didn't feel she could objectively review the book, but she liked it so much she wanted to talk informally about it.

Jorrie Spencer also talks about the book. And I know I'm forgetting some other kind mentions. I'm not much on LJ right now -- I'm working on the final chapters of Mexican Heat (yes, it will be out this year -- mostly likely next month) and I'm completely preoccupied with it just now. I hope after this month...

But really, why do I even say it? I've been saying it since the year began. Suffice it to say, I'm grateful for the cards and letters and comments, and I regret not being able to come out and play more often.

Land Ho!

Avast ye mateys. Me publisher sent the link to Amazon this morning, and blow me down if Death of a Pirate King isn't already listed.

It will still take a few weeks to fill the orders, of course, but...thar she be.

And because I truly haven't proven my geekiness to everyone's satisfaction, I thought I would offer the unofficial-but-as-near-as-makes-no-difference Death of a Pirate King Play List.

Death of a Pirate King Discussion

A number of people have mentioned wanting to discuss Death of a Pirate King. And of course I want the book to be discussed, but I thought it might be a good idea to set up a discussion far away from LJ, so that nothing is spoiled for those who haven't read it yet.

I set
a discussion up at Amazon on the Gay Mystery Community forum so that when the book comes in print, print readers can also join in if they're so inclined.

Having done that, of course, no one will have any interest in discussing it, and I'll look ego-maniacal for having set up a forum for my own book, so please go post something there so I don't look delusional. (It's okay that I am delusional, I just don't want to look it.)

I threw out a couple of my own questions, and I can throw out the "official" study guide questions if anyone would enjoy that. But I sort of thought I would stay out of the discussion as it might inhibit things.

Suddenly, a pirate ship appeared on the horizon!

So...yeah. Two years later, but who's counting?

It was through the back-from-a-watery-grave publication of The Hell You Say two years ago, that I met many of you -- and discovered M/M writing. I don't know about M/M writing, but I have never been the same.

Assuming all goes well, Death of a Pirate King goes live at Loose Id around about midnight tonight. I'm happy with the way the book turned out (okay, as happy as I am with anything I do) but my main hope is that those of you who love the series -- especially those of you who've been with me for so long -- find it lives up to expectation. All I can tell you is, I did my best.

The print edition through MLR Press is expected to go live around September 29th. A lot depends on Amazon and B&N.

He Shoots, He Scores!

Done.

Bloody done. And stick a fork in it.

But I think it's...not bad. I think you just might enjoy it. Despite all the moaning and groaning, I enjoyed writing it, and that's usually a good sign.

So...it's mailed to the publishers. Now it's just a matter of edits -- and I'll do those in a day.

But not this day. Not...this weekend. And to celebrate -- and because I can't get out of it -- I am going away for four days. Four days of no phones, internet, or doorbells...

Four days...gulp...of family.

Which will be good for my wrists -- if not my nerves.

Have a great Labor Day weekend. No, have a terrific Labor Day weekend.

Interview with Adrien English

To stall celebrate the looming release of Death of a Pirate King I did an interview with Adrien English over at Alex Beecroft's clever In Their Own Words blog. Thanks to all of you who contributed questions -- I ended up combining a few, and of course some questions must wait 'til DOPK to be addressed.

There's
an earlier interview with Jake Riordan for any who missed it.

Ask Adrien

Hope to soon be back among the living -- the writing is now going very well (Halle - fricking - lujah!), and we are looking good for bringing this baby in on time.

In the meantime, if I were to...say...sit Adrien English down for a little informal interview...anything you'd like me to ask him?

I need a pretty quick response on this one, so...lemme know. He's a busy guy with a murder to solve, know what I mean?
