So long and thanks for all the fish

I woke this morning and realized that I hadn't posted on my LiveJournal account for months. Well, it turns out I hadn't posted in just about a year. In fact, I really haven't posted much here in several years -- which is sad because we used to have such wonderful discussions and debates. But times change and we all move on. For the past few years I've mostly been posting on my own blog. And you can continue to find me there: blog

(And as  write this post I am reminded why I moved camp. Holy moly. The formatting issues just in a tiny post like this one. I'm having to type letters three and four times to get them to show up)

Anyway. You can still find me on Facebook, Goodreads and Twitter (Twitter is announcements only). I'd like to include the links, but once again LJ will not cooperate, so you can find them on the contacts page on my website www.joshlanyon.com. I hope you will want to stay in touch. I do -- but sadly it will not be here on LJ.

Again, thank you for the good times and great discussions. And here's to many more of them both.

It's good do see you post here because I've just been rereading your Pros stories and wishing you'd write more but as you say, people move on.

Well, you know I did spend some time at Christmas re-reading some of my favorite Pros stories. So it's still nice to take a walk in the old neighborhood. :-)

Hello! It *has* been a while!
And I'm also one who wishes you would write another Pros story, or ten! :)

I've bookmarked your blog, thank you. I'd hate to lose you completely!

I think we've all moved away from LJ, which is sad. I loved this place once upon a time, but I cannot grasp Tumblr, so I guess I'll stay here and post occasionally.

PS I knew you had written Pros fiction. Kari owes me money. :)

It's true. I did it backwards. I wrote my fan fiction after I'd been a professionally been published for several years. I'm not sure what that means (other than Kari shouldn't gamble). :-D

I find it interesting when people complain about the formatting here, because I've never had any trouble. Autoformat can be disabled, if you like. Maybe I get a different posting page ...

It is a shame so many have moved on. I'm guilty of only reading at Live Journal now, and haven't posted for ages. My life's pretty boring - nothing exciting to share. :D

A few years back I started having issues with my blog. It wouldn't let me cut and paste, it wouldn't let me delete drafts...I contacted tech support and they kept telling me there was nothing wrong. So eventually I had to give up.

The technical issues are probably the main reason I quit posting -- it was just too frustrating.

But one reason I held off "officially" leaving was there are so many of you who can only be found here.

Sorry to see you go from lj. Unfortunately, I came in just a bit too late to join in all the early discussions you mention. I do follow you on your blog and enjoy all your writing.

I'm with shooting2kill and siskiou holding out hope for another Pro's story. *g* I understand the moving on bit - but wouldn't it be a grand way to say goodbye - one last Pro's Big Bang story? :-)

Ha! You do not know how many times I have thought the very same thing. And you just never know. I would certainly love to have time enough to write strictly and solely for fun.

I'm also one who is sorry you're moving on from LJ. Your blog, unfortunately, will not let me post anything (even after creating new accounts), but I do understand how things change :(

Oh no! I wonder why. I have almost no restrictions on it. Well, I'm not deleting my account here, just warning people that I no longer intend to post. Not that that really helps. I do hate losing track of people.

I love your Pros stories! I know you're busy with your original fic but do you ever miss the lads?

Good seeing you here! (I wonder why you have trouble with formatting. I find LJ quite amenable even when I'm posting a bunch of pics. Darn LJ for picking on you!)

Not only do I miss the lads, I miss so many of you. And I miss those long, involved fascinating discussions. I'm not sure why, but as social media goes, LJ has an almost relaxed and leisurely pace.

I do agree with LJ. I find the so-called "chats" that publishers hold on FB annoying. They obviously have never been in a real time chat. *bag kat*

I follow your blog and had forgotten you were on LJ too!! I adored the Christmas anthology and have just downloaded Fair Play. I share that sneaky hope that you might post another Pros story somewhere, sometime!

Thank you! That's so kind. And like I said, I still love the lads, still think very fondly of our discussions here. And who can say what happens in the future. I certainly have enough half-started Pros stories.

You will be missed. I know this because you have been missed.

Have you considered Dreamwidth instead? One can import one's LJ journal in its entirety, comments and all. (It is always nice to be able to take up one's house and go, if going is on the cards.) I shifted my own homebase to Dreamwidth a couple of years ago, and I nowadays I crosspost over here, which can be done with an automatic feed. DW is similar to LJ, but without the ads and more fan-friendly. Whether that would help with the posting problems I don't know since, like some of the others who have commented, that's never been a problem for me. No doubt it's all something to do with browsers—not my area of specialization, to put it mildly.

You may or may not have noticed that maryrenaultfics has gone on permanent hiatus, as of this past January. It had been slipping gradually downhill, bit by bit, with the occasional "up" to raise one's hopes, followed by valleys of silence. This past year has been especially trying, one way or another: the writing was on the wall. Still it's hard to see it go.

I miss you too -- and all the gang over at maryrenaultfics. It's sad to hear about them closing the doors. Even though it's been so long since I was active there I loved imagining the civilized and intelligent conversations still going on.

In my case, I've made the decision to cut back on social platforms in general, and concentrate on the ones that are easiest to use and seem to reach more readers. Otherwise I find that stretching too far really does reduce the quality of the interaction. I think that's my mantra for the year. Quality over quantity.

"I loved imagining the civilized and intelligent conversations still going on"

There is another (much newer) Renault community that might interest you—if not right now, then some time. It's called RenaultX, on Dreamwidth. Right at the moment they're in the middle of discussing one of the historicals (The Mask of Apollo) and organizing a fic exchange, for which sign-ups end this evening.

However, I'm sure that at some point there will be another discussion of The Charioteer. Some familiar faces will be around; and the talk will definitely be reasonably intelligent. Would you like a heads up, if and when?

Sure! Even if I can't get over there to take part, I'd be happy to know it's going on.

I don't blame you. LJ makes life difficult for its users. I am only keeping the account for a few old friends who still use LJ to blog.

Had some good time here with your blog. See you in other venues!

Movin' on
I realized tonight I hadn't been on LJ in 3 years. I used to follow, and post once in a while, on your LJ.

Time changes everything.

I loved reading all the discussions and replies from everyone and followed you for a long time, then 'time' happened. And work. And family. It makes me realize I need to once again get in touch with what I used to love to do.

Shove all the baggage aside and enjoy myself again. Which I have been working on. I know I'm rambling, but part of 'what I used to love to do' was read your LJ posts/replies. They were great and it saddens me that LJ is past it's prime and doddering into old age, and is a crabby old bear to you.

I'll have to connect on your blog, now that I have some extra 'time' on my hands *g*.

Take Care!
